Thomas Tuchel Seeks Jude Bellingham's Fire So Long As England's Ace Sets Aside Egotism Outside.

One snub was enough. Another and it could have seemed vindictive from Thomas Tuchel, who is far too wily not to understand that securing World Cup glory is probably going to require help from Jude Bellingham, even if it is also Bellingham's responsibility to blend into the game plans and squad hierarchies necessary with the national team now that he is returned to Tuchel's warm embrace.

Tuchel wants Bellingham's edge, his passion, but it is a matter of harnessing it in the right way. Personal talent matters but England understand from past setbacks that there is a cost when celebrity takes over. Nevertheless, a message has been sent.

Bellingham had plenty to reflect on after not being selected of the recent team selection. He watched England qualify at the tournament without him. He watched Morgan Rogers perform brilliantly as a high-pressing No 10. He listened as the coach discuss appreciating the team's dynamism and values. Inevitably, he has reacted in top form, netting important strikes for his club versus Barcelona and the Italian side. Inclusion was a must; leaving him out again would have put his tournament chances precarious.

The expectation is that the manager will have a midfielder focused on intimidating opponents instead of his own colleagues. Ultimately, in purely sporting terms, there is no value to picking a fight with a top talent in the world. The ideal scenario is that Bellingham’s time out of the team has shown him that playing for one's country is a valuable, uncertain thing. Tuchel, for his part, can now offer support for the youngster after demonstrating that he is unafraid to take tough decisions.

“There is no problem regarding him, and no concern with the character,” the German stated. “Jude displays a competitive streak. You need that kind of fire to succeed at the top that he reached. We all need to support him and create an environment which he can channel this edge against rivals and for the objectives we are striving for as a team.”

Bellingham took up most of the attention at Tuchel’s squad announcement for the upcoming dead-rubber qualifiers against Serbia and Albania. Who else? Well, what about Phil Foden? Here is a further gifted playmaker in need of love and guidance. Foden has not played for England since March and has struggled to perform well this year but Tuchel was impressed by the player after his display in Manchester City’s win versus Borussia Dortmund recently.

The question, however, is how to use the various creators at England’s disposal. Morgan Rogers and Eze deserve their spots and there will be a good argument to include another youngster once he overcomes a persistent groin problem. Would taking multiple creators to the World Cup be an overkill? The previous manager failed to discover the correct balance at the European Championship. He made concessions by forcing Foden and Bellingham into the same XI, restricting Harry Kane’s game in the process.

It seems unlikely Tuchel making the same mistake if it hurts the team harmony. Space exists for a single playmaker, with quick attackers on the wings. Clarity is beneficial. He is in as a No 10. Bournemouth’s Alex Scott, selected for the first occasion, is a central midfielder and the returning Adam Wharton will compete with another player as a No 6. Additionally, there is no wide role for the City star, who has to be through the middle. The coach wants him close to the striker. “It is illogical to tell Foden: ‘You are needed in the team but no spot exists on your best position, could you fill in at left wing? Or the right wing?” he said. “Phil is to feature in the No 9-10ish position, in the middle of the pitch. I've long had this vision regarding him for a long time. I think it suits him best.”

He agreed there are times when Foden has seemed out of sorts in an England shirt. “You feel as if, ‘Is he truly happy? And a player like him who has obvious passion for the game, then obviously an issue exists, be it his role, the setup, it's unclear.

“I think he is additionally so used to playing for Man City in a specific system, to have a defined role. Believe he benefits a lot from clear instructions. What is my position? Where exactly should I turn? When should I to accelerate the match? What are my to defend?

The manager talked about Bellingham bursting through for tap-ins and the other drilling in goals from 18 yards. He said he has a longlist of 60 players. Several players, others, the goalkeeper and the midfielder have dropped out. Nico O’Reilly is recognized for his excellent performances for City at defense. Interest is high.

Leaving out of the striker means there is no like-for-like alternative for Kane in this squad. Fascinatingly, Tuchel hinted at using the playmaker as a false 9 versus one opponent or Albania. Other options, Marcus Rashford, Bellingham and the winger are alternatives should he be absent. With qualification secured, this is an opportunity for a little experimentation.

At the same time, it is also a chance to develop Kane’s relationship with his teammate flowing. It's surprising that one must look back to Bellingham setting up the captain to net in an international match against Scotland in over a year ago to find the sole instance in many appearances for England when the duo combined for a goal. Tuchel will know that the two stars only exchanged the ball a single time during the team's ties with one opponent and Slovenia at the Euros. Their partnership is lacking.

“This is where at some point it falls to the responsibility of the players,” he stated. He does not shy away to speak frankly. Remains a sense of the player under scrutiny. He may not be assured to start against the upcoming opponents. The manager wants Bellingham onside but he will be observing him carefully. Leave the ego outside. Doing so could turn a powerful squad into an even better one.
